I didn’t always know when I was under spiritual attack. I used to think that the heaviness I felt in my chest when I woke up in the morning was just stress. I thought the sudden arguments in my family, the strange dreams that left me trembling, the financial doors that seemed to slam shut right when I was praying hardest—were all just “life happening.” Until the Holy Spirit opened my eyes. Until I began to discern, truly, what it means when we say: “I am under spiritual attack.”
And today, I want to share that with you—not as someone speaking from the pages of a theology textbook, but as someone who has been there, who has warred in the spirit, who has cried out to God from the floor at 3:00 a.m., and who has seen what happens when heaven answers.
When Life Feels Off – But You Can’t Explain It
Sometimes, you can’t even find the words. You’re doing all the right things. You’re praying, you’re reading the Word, you’re fasting. But it feels like you’re walking through molasses. Like every step forward comes with two steps of invisible resistance. Suddenly, your relationships are strained. Your thoughts are no longer clear. You’re doubting things you once stood firm on. Your sleep is disturbed. Your peace is disrupted. And no matter how many people you talk to, they don’t seem to understand what’s going on.
That’s when I learned: Spiritual attacks are real.
The Bible is not shy about this. In Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV), Paul reminds us:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age…”
That’s not poetic language. That’s spiritual intelligence. You’re not crazy. You’re not weak. You’re just in a war you can’t always see with your eyes.
How Do Spiritual Attacks Happen?
Let me be honest with you. Most spiritual attacks don’t start with demons flying through your windows. No lightning bolts. No thunder. Most begin subtly. Quietly. Craftily. Like a small leak in a boat—it doesn’t seem dangerous until the water rises high enough to sink you.
It can start with a thought. One whisper:
“You’re not good enough.”
“Your prayers aren’t working.”
“God is silent.”
And the enemy is patient. He will repeat it until it becomes part of your inner voice. Until you start speaking it, believing it, aligning with it. That’s when I knew I was under spiritual attack—when my thoughts started contradicting God’s Word.
The enemy uses doors. And those doors can be wide open or cracked just enough to let darkness in. A door of offense. A door of unrepented sin. A door of bitterness. A door of trauma. And sometimes, a door of disobedience.
There was a time I had ignored the Holy Spirit’s nudge about someone I was closely working with at a workplace. Something didn’t sit right, but I didn’t want to offend them. I was too focused on peacekeeping rather than truth-keeping. It wasn’t long before confusion entered my team, accusations were flying, and I found myself in a spiritual fog. That experience taught me something deep: Delayed obedience is disobedience. And disobedience invites attacks.
Recognizing Spiritual Warfare in Everyday Life
The devil doesn’t always show up with horns. Sometimes he shows up in patterns. In cycles. In spiritual stagnation that doesn’t make sense.
Have you ever noticed that just when you’re about to step into something God-ordained—a job interview, a sermon, a new season—everything around you seems to fall apart? That’s not always coincidence. That’s often warfare.
Have you ever been in a season where your dreams are filled with snakes, dogs chasing you, people feeding you in the dream? And then you wake up and suddenly everything in your life is on pause? That’s not a nightmare. That’s a spiritual transaction in your sleep. The enemy often attacks us in the realm of the spirit—because that’s where destinies are shaped.
Even sickness can be spiritual. Even depression. Even sudden poverty. When you’ve been giving, tithing, praying, but everything dries up. It might not be your bank account—it might be an altar raised against your breakthrough.
These are not just physical conditions. They’re symptoms of spiritual warfare. And they require spiritual response.
The Danger of Ignoring Spiritual Attacks
If the enemy can’t destroy you, he’ll distract you. He’ll keep you busy with good things, so you miss God things. That’s how spiritual attacks can be effective. They numb you to the Spirit’s voice. You’ll still go to church, but you won’t feel convicted. You’ll read your Bible, but the words won’t pierce you. You’ll smile, but inside you’re dry.
I remember crying out to God one night. I felt like I had nothing left. I said, “Lord, where are You?” And I heard Him whisper in my spirit,
“You’re fighting with your mouth closed.”
That changed everything.
How to Fight Back – And Win
Child of God, don’t be passive in this war. You can’t defeat what you don’t confront. And you can’t confront what you don’t discern.
You need spiritual discipline. You need the Word of God. You need worship that doesn’t entertain but breaks chains. You need to speak in tongues, to pray in the Spirit, to fast when your flesh wants comfort.
You need to close every door you’ve left open—bitterness, offense, hidden sin—and you need to plead the blood of Jesus over your mind, your family, your destiny.
The power is in Jesus. The cross is not a symbol—it’s a verdict. The blood still speaks. And when you invoke the name of Jesus, heaven stands at attention.
Don’t let the devil lie to you. You are not helpless. You are not defeated. You are anointed for war.
A Final Word From My Heart to Yours
If you’ve been feeling lost, confused, or under pressure, I want you to know this:
You’re not alone. And you’re not crazy. You’re just in the middle of a spiritual attack.
But take heart, because the Bible says in Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV):
“When the enemy comes in like a flood,
The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”
That standard is Jesus. That standard is truth. That standard is faith that doesn’t bow even when the storm rages.
Right now, I encourage you—rise. Begin to pray. Not quietly, not politely—but like someone taking back ground. Declare that your mind is free. Your purpose is unshakable. Your family is covered. And that no weapon formed against you shall prosper.
And if you need someone to stand with you in prayer, know that here at Victoria Ministries, we don’t just believe in prayer—we live it. We are standing in the gap for you.
Stay in the Word. Stay in worship. Stay awake in the Spirit.
This battle is not yours. It belongs to the Lord. And He never loses.
