Praying in togetherness, as taught in the Bible, is one of the most effective strategies for spiritual breakthrough. Unfortunately, we tend to undervalue this incredible capacity. The good news is that any Christian, group, or family can still participate in unified prayer.
The amazing thing about God’s covenant with Abraham is that it contained blessings for our family:
I will make you a great nation; I will bless you
And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing…
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed – (Genesis 12:2-3).

This covenant promise is wonderful news if your family is in need of a breakthrough at this time of year. It implies that God loves you and is prepared to assist you in any difficult situation you may be going through.
But don’t overlook the first step towards making a change in your life: developing a true perception of your Heavenly Father. The apostle Paul stated that your heavenly father, who is the source of all blessings, “has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).
The Bible is a declaration of God’s nature. According to King David (Psalm 145:9), “The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” John said, “God is love,” and he insisted that one cannot know God apart from love (1 John 4:8).
For many years, when married couples or small groups have adopted a prayer blitz of united accord, we have witnessed amazing breakthroughs. They appeared to have no hope because, in many cases, they had exhausted all other options. God has given amazing promises concerning the effectiveness of fasting, prayer, and unity (Jer. 29:13; Matt. 17:20–21; Acts 12:5–12; James 5:16).
Ways to seek break-throughs
- As married couple, or group of friends, or both, you may decide to set aside a specific amount of time to concentrate especially on prayer for the necessary breakthroughs. The time frame might be as short as a few days, as long as God directs, or several weeks.
- Adopting a rigorous spiritual cleaning practice at the start of the unique prayer concentration period and continuing it throughout is crucial. The significance of prayer with a pure and sincere heart is something we should never undervalue (Ps. 66:18; James 5:16).
- As a family, you may decide to practice fasting. One way is to pray during that time instead of eating at noon. Fasting guided by the Spirit is frequently an effective way to boost the effectiveness of prayer (Matt. 17:21). It is a matter of obedience, even if it should never be seen as legalism to “earn” God’s favor. Jesus stated “when” rather than “if you fast” (Matt. 6:16).
- You may invite others to join you in prayer for your particular need (Matt. 18:19). One useful strategy is to ask those you invite to pray for you for a short while throughout specific times of the day (e.g., breakfast, lunch, sleep, etc.). It is crucial that we carefully choose who we invite to participate in the coordinated prayer blitz. This can only be as effective as the participants’ prayers and consistency!
- When, as a family, you commit to getting together for regular unified prayer with your prayer partners, it becomes quite effective. Accountability is another feature added by holding regular meetings. Weekly meetings are an option, as is agreed upon. Such unified agreement carries great power. (Acts 2:1; Matthew 18:19, etc.). It was described as “explicit agreement and visible union in extraordinary prayer” by Jonathan Edwards.
- Pay close attention to any promises or revelations God gives you throughout the prayer frenzy to help you focus your prayers. Praying God’s revealed promises gives our prayer much more strength and confidence. In order to pinpoint and destroy certain strongholds in the people we are praying for, we should also seek God’s knowledge (2 Cor. 10:3-5; 2 Pet. 1:4).
- Remain persistent! In breakthrough prayer, persistence is a concept that is sometimes overlooked (Matt. 18:1-9; Luke 11:5). Big wins frequently take a lot of work and a lot of passion. Certain prayers need years to be answered, so we shouldn’t feel bad or give up if they don’t happen right away. Additionally, it is a characteristic of spiritual warfare that things occasionally grow worse before they get better. Let us never lose sight of Jesus and our issues (Heb. 12:2).
God, your loving Heavenly Father, is inherently inclined to bless you, therefore you may rely on Him to do so, my friend. Today, make a call to the God of blessings and ask Him to provide you and your family the necessary breakthrough!
