The Cornerstone

May 16, 2024

Hello and welcome, it’s so good to have you here and we hope that you’ve been having a great time meditating on the word and applying the word and receiving the fruit of applying the truth in your own life. We’ve been meditating on the revelation that we receive from God, the revelation that we receive about Himself. God chooses to reveal about Himself, reveal Himself to us in so many different ways and so many facets to who He is and we’ve been studying about that.

Today, we are looking at one other aspect of who He is, the Bible declares in 1 Peter chapter 2 and verse 6 that He is the chief cornerstone. Let’s read 1 Peter chapter 2, verses 5 through 7, ‘you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in scripture, “behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.’ Verse 7, ‘therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.’ So, both verses 6 and 7 describe Jesus our Lord as the chief cornerstone and it describes us as living stones which are being built up as a spiritual house to offer spiritual sacrifices.

So, that’s that is our identity of who we are, a spiritual house but if you notice He is the chief cornerstone or the corner foundation stone. So, it is the foundation of the building which means that the building rests upon it. We together as a spiritual house, as a church, as believers, we rest upon it and there can be no foundation except the Lord Jesus Christ, which means we gathered together based on this foundation. It’s not on based on some activity, it’s not based on some Christian entertainment, it’s not based on that but it’s on this cornerstone the chief cornerstone, Jesus Himself. Secondly, we see that all other measurements of the building are taken with reference to this cornerstone, the reference point is the cornerstone.

So, also everything about our life that Jesus is the reference point, that Jesus is our point of reference, our plumbline, He is our standard, so we refer to Him, all other things in our lives come from that. We measure everything according to that standard. Also, the chief cornerstone, it bears the record of the building, there is a record of the building, the story of the building which is mentioned there. The chief cornerstone is also the ornamental stone of the building and the beauty of the building. So, we see all these aspects and we see that Jesus is that, He’s revealing this to us and so if He asking that question, who am I to you? Who do you say that I am? We can say Lord, you are our chief cornerstone and our life is dependent, our weight of our entire life rests on that.

Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for being our foundation and we thank you Lord that you are a sure foundation and all other things in life rest on that. We thank you that you are our reference point, you are our standard and you are our beauty, Lord, you make everything beautiful in our lives, we thank you Lord that you are our chief cornerstone. Today, we pray that if there is anything that needs change in our lives, that needs to be aligned in our lives, we pray that that will come alignment to the foundation to the chief cornerstone who is Jesus Himself, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
